Portsmouth students equipped to revolutionise training data management in the RAF

Squadron Leader Sam Grant of the RAF 20 Squadron faced a complex problem surrounding training data management. “The genesis of the problem came from my staff spending far too much time crunching data and trying to find efficiencies, which ironically put us in a position where we were being inefficient”. This problem was presented to a team of students at the University of Portsmouth who immediately began their discovery.

The students developed the skeleton for an app that could simplify the data input and analysis process, allowing the user to track training cancellations, interact with dashboards, or pull up weekly, monthly and yearly data analytics.

The students really accelerated this project for us, and without them, we would have been six to eight months behind. They also provided a different perspective on the problem and tackled it in a different way than the military.
